Hotels in Morecambe and around the bay

Morecambe sits on the Lancashire coast facing north-west across its own bay, with the Lake District fells visible on the far side on a clear day. This site lists the hotels that are genuinely near it — along the promenade, inland at Lancaster, and up the quieter limestone coast towards Silverdale — with the Google rating and room count for each.

Most of the accommodation here is on or just behind the seafront, and much of it is small and family-run rather than branded. That is worth knowing: the choice is wider than the chain-hotel search results suggest.

Where to look

Morecambe

The promenade, the Midland Hotel and the Winter Gardens — and the shortest walk to the sea.

Lancaster

The castle, the priory and the Ashton Memorial, four miles inland.

Carnforth & Silverdale

Leighton Moss, limestone country and the Brief Encounter station, towards the Lakes.

What was the Glenthorn Hotel?

People still search for it, so here is the plain answer. The Glenthorn Hotel stood at 24–26 West End Road, Morecambe, Lancashire LA4 4DL, about 50 metres back from the promenade, and its telephone number was 01524 411640. Its own website described a family-run hotel, roughly fifteen minutes from the M6, with a traditional English breakfast included — the kind of seafront guest hotel Morecambe has always had a lot of.

That site ran until the mid-2020s, and the address no longer appears in current hotel listings, so the Glenthorn appears to have closed or changed hands. We have no connection to the original business and cannot take bookings for it — this site simply now occupies the domain name and points visitors to what is actually open. The nearest alternatives are on the Morecambe page.

Getting here

Morecambe has its own railway station with connections through Lancaster, which is on the West Coast Main Line and has direct services to London, Manchester and Glasgow. By car it is a short run from junction 34 or 35 of the M6. Heysham, just south, is the ferry port for the Isle of Man and Ireland, so if you are booking around a sailing it is worth checking which end of the coast you are staying at.
